Naugachia, the subdivision, of Bhagalpur district of Bihar was the prominent trade city of maize and banana. This subdivision is located on the North bank of the Ganges and surrounded by the Koshi river. Four and half kms. long Vikramshila  setu over the Ganges links Naugachia and Bhagalpur with vast scope of trade. One bridge over the Koshi river connecting Naugachia to Madhepura is almost ready and waiting for the inauguration at the hands of Honble Chief Minister of Bihar. Naugachia has a unique socio-cultural structure e.g. a mixture of Hindus and Islamic culture. Whole of the population is known for harmony, unity and service to the nation.  Most of the population of this area is rural and economically backward. This has a model railway station which is connected to almost every part of the country. This station has strategic importance also connecting the place to the North-East of the country e.g. Seven sister states. This college is situated beside NH 31. which is  connected to Guwahati.  The Naugachia subdivision has the destinction of having a civil court with the posting of additional district judge. Though Naugachia has not been made a revenue district, it is the police district maintaining efficiently the law and order problem.

                                    Since the days of British rule, despite natural hardships, the people of this region have been excelling in achievements in the fields of science, arts and trade too. Needless to say that Naugachia has produced I.A.S and I.P.S officers in sizeable numbers working in different capacities in different parts of the country. The post of chief secretary of Bihar has been held by one of the I.A.S of Naugachia. This area has produced academicians and economists of repute. Dr. S.C. Jha, hailing from this subdivision, was the former economic advisor to the Hon’ble Prime minister and chairman , special task force on Bihar.

                                    The people of this area have great sense of patriotism, participated actively in the freedom struggle and sacrificed their lives on the altar of mother India. Former president  Rajendra Prasad and Mahatma Gandhi were hurt in the lathi charge by the British regime in Bihpur in 1942.

G.B.College,Naugachia established in 1958, a prominent institution of North Bhagalpur, is affiliated to T.M.Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur, one of the  prestigious Universities of Bihar, established on 12th July 1960 having its campus in around 264 acres of area. At present this University runs under the dynamic leadership of a learned Vice-Chancellor Prof.(Dr.)  Rama Shankar Dubey is dedicated to the development of the University by his Long term vision of Seminar and research. The college is being run by the Principal Prof. (Dr.) Janardan Sharma who is also a man of repute in chemistry.
